The Canada PM, Justin Trudeau, expelled a top Indian diplomat. India-Canada relations are at an all-time low. The reason for this decision is that the Canadian government alleged an Indian diplomat in the killing of pro-Khalistan leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar. He was declared a terrorist by the Indian government in 2020.

Hardeep Singh was killed on June 18, 2022, at the Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara in Surrey, a city in British Columbia province, in his truck by some anonymous attackers.

Justin Trudeau, in his speech in the Parliament of Canada, said “Over the past number of weeks, Canadian security agencies have been pursuing credible allegations of a potential link between agents of the Indian government and the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Canadian citizen.”

He further said, “Any involvement of a foreign government in the killing of a Canadian citizen on Canadian soil is unacceptable. I continue to urge the Indian government to cooperate with Canada to get to the bottom of this matter.”

The Canadian government also postponed the trade mission to India indefinitely. The objective of this trade mission was to establish a free trade agreement between India and Canada.
