What is the African Union?
This union is a group of 55 countries on the African continent. The headquarters of this union are in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The main objective of the African Union is to establish unity and solidarity among the African nations.
A new alliance called the Global Biofuels Alliance has been launched at the G20 summit in 2023. The aim of this alliance is to ensure sustainability and clean energy. The founding member countries of this alliance are India, and the USA. Some other countries also joined the alliance, like Israel, Brazil, Bangladesh, Italy, the UAE, Mauritius, etc.
India-Middle East-Europe economic corridor is also launched at the summit. It will be an infrastructure project, including railway and shipping linkages. This corridor will connect India, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Germany, France, Italy, the European Union, and the US.
Some controversies related to the G20 Summit 2023:
Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping are not going to attend this summit. It doesn’t mean that they are boycotting the G20 summit.
Russia will be represented by its Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, while China will be represented by Chinese Premier Li Qiang.
Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar said that Russia and China skipping the summit have nothing to do with India.
Theme of G20 2023:
India has held the presidency of the G20 summit since December 1, 2022. The theme of G20 Summit is Vasudhaiva kutumbakam
This word has its origins in Sanskrit. The English meaning of Vasudhaiva kutumbakam is One Earth, One Family, One Future.
However, China objected to the theme as it is a Sanskrit phrase, and Sanskrit is not an official language of the United Nations. India, in response to the objection, said that we also used the English phrase Vasudhaiva kutumbakam—One Earth, One Family, One Future in the summary documents and outcome statements.
Some other countries also supported India’s substance, as India has the presidency of the G20 and has the right to do anything.
